He has a name now and South Holland is as far away as the moon.  Lucius bears the scars of a life he'll never know again.  His deep, soulful eyes will never have to see the inside of a fighting ring again.  Those are unspoken words between Lucius and me, his foster mom, and a promise that he trusts in me to keep.  He demands nothing from me, only a pat on the head, his warm, comforting crate and gentle reassurances that the world outside his crate is a friendly world. 

In the short time Lucius has been with me, I have found him to be quite remarkable.  His appearance is quite the opposite of his demeanor.  Most people are hesitant to approach this very intimidating looking boy.  He is shy and unsure of new people and will greet you on his terms but once he gets to know you and feels comfortable with you, he will stick to you like glue.  His rock solid temperament makes him wonderful with kids of any age and  he has a playful side that is absolutely hilarious.  He is a true testament to the breed.

Lucius truly is undiscovered treasure.  If you look past his rough exterior, you will find an old soul with the tenderest of hearts.  And those willing to look will have struck gold.
