Maple is a 35-lb. (underweight, but working on it!) spayed female Pit Bull/French Bulldog mix. She is an affectionate, loving dog that loves to be petted, to snuggle, and simply to be near 'her humans.' She is good with adults and children, and does not pay much attention to my cat. She does need to be the only dog in the home though. She's a very even keel dog, who isn't fazed by my 4-year old son making noise and running around the house playing. For example, he was jumping on his mini trampoline and Maple just sat back and watched him go!
Maple is impeccably housetrained and will go to the door and bark or whine to let you know that she needs to be let out.

Maple was rescued from appalling conditions from a backyard in Indiana. She was tied outside using a jump rope and was living in a mud puddle. She was covered head to toe in fleas and the itchiness was causing her to chew her butt raw. She was overbred and also had a huge hematoma that was ready to burst. She has been fully vetted and is now on the mend. During her recovery, she had been cooperative at taking her medicine, and allowed me to clean her wounded ear, though I'm sure it hurts.

She is eager to please and is a quick learner, having already learned to sit on command, to take treats gently while sitting, and to go into her crate when I tell her it's time for bed. She already knows how to speak on command, to stand up on command, and is getting better at not pulling so much when we go for walks. When I've let her run loose in our fenced backyard, she has shown me that she will come inside when I call. When she requires correction, a firm "no" is all it takes. All I have to do is issue the word "no" in a firm voice, and she stops what she's doing, looks at me with big eyes, and tries to figure out how to do better next time. She is very invested in being loved by and pleasing her human family.

Because she's new to our house, Maple has been sleeping in a large dog crate at night. She seems to like being in her crate and settles down quickly at bedtime. She sleeps all night long and has not barked/howled/whined, etc. Even during the day, when the crate door is wide open, Maple will sometimes go into her crate to lie down and rest or chew on her bone.

Maple barks when people approach the house or ring the doorbell, but is quickly settled when she sees that her humans have a handle on the situation. She has been friendly to all visitors to our home, as well as to everyone she has met on dog walks - humans and dogs alike. A quality that I really appreciate is that she is *not* a bolter/runner. I can open the front door when she's nearby and she will not run out. She waits for me to say or show that it's okay to go outside.

Maple is a great dog who deserves a loving, forever family. She is so sweet and affectionate that I know she will bring joy to 'her humans.' :)
